Workshop Discussion Points and Sources
Thanks for attending the LadyMates workshop on: The snakes and ladders of women at work
I spoke about some data points and shared some sources, so here are links to those discussion points.
A bit about me...
- My research into what's going on for working mothers, Beyond the 9 to 5.
- Research into the impacts of COVID on working mums.
- Women at work podcast
I help organisations shift the dial on gender equity - keynote speaking, workshops, group coaching and 1-1 executive coaching.
Women-focused and whole of company solutions that really have an impact.
First, we talked about the snakes
I spoke about some data points and shared some sources, so here are links to those discussion points.
- Many women encounter sexual harassment or sex-based discrimination in the workplace. Respect@Work legislation was introduced, creating a positive duty of care around prevention.
- Women being sidelined after having children.
- A good definition of the motherhood penalty, and Treasury data on the persistent pay gap for mothers.
- Women receive 2-4% of VC funding
- The double bind of women in leadership
If there's anything else I said that you want to hear more about, send me an email and I'll happily share links and info with you!
And what's good for women, or mothers, is good for everyone
- Men are facing a fatherhood penalty if they continue to remain involved parents post-COVID.
- Women are the most productive workers in the workforce.
- Diversity Council of Australia Inclusion@Work research
Then, we talked about the ladders
There are a number of policy and behavioural frameworks that support women progressing in their careers
- Sponsorship and mentorship
- Flexible work - with no penalty to pay or opportunity
- Strong parental leave policies
- Targets and KPIs - because what gets measured gets managed
- Transparent promotion and pay processes
